Rare Soprano Saxophone SELMER Super Action 80 from the first series, overhauled, 344xxx
Following the successful production of the Mark VI, Henri SELMER Paris introduced the Mark VII as its successor model in the mid-1970s. The Mark VII was initially produced as an alto and tenor saxophone. Apart from a very small pre-series production of baritone saxophones in the Mark VII series, no other sizes were manufactured under the Mark VII name.
Henri SELMER Paris worked diligently on the successor model, the “Super Action 80,” and so the soprano saxophones were produced directly as “Super Action 80” and not as “Mark VII.” Since alto and tenor saxophones were (and still are) the most commonly produced saxophones, more work was done on the details of these models, and an upgrade from the “Super Action 80” to the “Super Action 80 II” followed not long after.
This Henri SELMER soprano saxophone is one of the few “Super Action 80” models from the first series.
We have just completely overhauled this soprano and it is in perfect technical condition. You can tell immediately when you first play this SELMER soprano saxophone that it has been played a lot: it is really well played in, starts very well and has a beautiful full tone with a rather dark timbre.
The remaining lacquer has darkened beautifully over the decades, with only about 20% of the lacquer remaining. Most of the lacquer has worn off, giving this SELMER soprano saxophone a beautiful patina.
Conclusion: a rare Henri SELMER Paris soprano saxophone with a beautiful tone and good playability at a fair price.
