SELMER Collector’s Edition Tenor Saxophone Reference 54 “Dragonbird”, Nr. 20/150, first hand, 740xxx

In 2005, Henri SELMER Paris launched the limited edition “Bird” series in honor of the 50th anniversary of Charlie “Bird” Parker’s death. These SELMER saxophones feature special engravings and some different specifications. A total of five special editions were produced between 2005 and 2012, with a typical bird selected for each continent and the saxophones engraved accordingly: Edition I: “Hummingbird” America (2005), Edition II: “Kookaburra” Australia (2006), Edition III: “Flamingo” – Africa (2007), Edition IV: ‘Firebird’ – Europe (2008-2010) and, as the last series, Edition V: “Dragonbird” – Asia (2011-2012).

In addition to the “normal” Series III (alto and tenor), the Dragonbird series also included a strictly limited “Collector’s Edition” (soprano Series III, alto Reference 54, and tenor Reference 54).

Only 150 “Dragon Bird” Collector Reference 54 tenor saxophones were produced, and the one offered here is number 20!

This saxophone comes from its first owner and is in very good condition. There is no damage such as dents or bumps. No soldering or major repairs have been carried out on the saxophone. Most of the lacquer on the body, knee joint, bell, and neck is still intact, but there is virtually no lacquer left on the keys. Apparently, the original owner stripped the lacquer from the keys (see photos).

The daughter of the now deceased first owner has commissioned us to sell this rare SELMER saxophone.

We have just completely disassembled and polished the saxophone in our SAXOPHONIC workshop, partially overhauled it, reassembled it, and fine-tuned it so that it now plays perfectly and looks beautiful again!
