Used Alto Saxophone Henri SELMER Paris Reference 54, Bird Edition “Flamingo”, 705xx

In 2005, Henri SELMER Paris presented the first Reference special model to mark the 50th anniversary of Charly Parker’s death. Charly Parker’s nickname was “Bird”, so SELMER came up with the idea of 5 special series, each with special hand engravings depicting a particular bird. 5 different motifs, one for each continent:

2005 “Hummingbird”, America

2006 “Kookaburra”, Australia

2007 “Flamingo”, Africa

2008/2009 Firebird, Europe

2011 Dragonbird, Asia

The Reference 54 special model presented here was delivered in 2007 and bears the “Flamingo” engraving. The Flamingo References are particularly sought after as they were produced without the high F# key. Many players say that saxophones without the high F# key have slightly more projection in the higher registers.

This SELMER Reference 54 “Flamingo” was purchased new from us in 2007 by the only previous owner and has been played professionally. It has always been well cared for and there is no damage from drops in the past. Apart from the smallest traces of use (e.g. scratches in the area of the suspension eyelet), the Alto still looks very good. The paintwork is still mostly intact, there are only partial signs of wear, e.g. on the thumb hook etc.

We have just overhauled this SELMER Reference 54 alto saxophone “Flamingo” in our SAXOPHONIC workshop, so that it is not only visually but also technically flawless.

The fact that this SELMER alto has been played professionally for many years is immediately apparent when you play it: it is beautifully free-playing and develops its full radiance very easily.

Apart from the fact that the SELMER Reference 54 saxophones are no longer in production, this very well-preserved Reference 54 alto saxophone “Flamingo” is a rare series that is hard to find.
